August 21 marked the first anniversary of the Golden Spike Project Area, UIPA’s fourth project area.
Approved exactly one year ago during a public board meeting, this project area was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Tremonton City Council, Box Elder County Commission, Brigham City Council, and Garland City, all of whom passed resolutions supporting its creation.
At the time of its creation, Stan Summers, Box Elder County Commissioner said, “Collaborating with UIPA on the Golden Spike Project Area marks a turning point for Box Elder County and the entire region. With a focus on light industrial, aerospace, composites, food manufacturing, steel-related industries and more, this Project Area is set to attract high-tech advanced manufacturing jobs and create a thriving economic focal point. Box Elder County remains focused on quality of life and quality growth. These Project Areas reflect Utah’s forward-looking approach to economic development, sustainability, infrastructure improvement and job creation.
Strategically located, the Golden Spike Project Area plays a critical role in regional economic development. It benefits from prime logistical advantages, including access to Interstate 15, Interstate 84, US Highway 89, US Highway 9, and the Union Pacific rail line. Its proximity to Nevada and Idaho further strengthens its connectivity, making it a pivotal hub for trade in the region.
Just a few months after the project’s approval, Lakeshore Learning began construction on a 1.22 million-square-foot distribution facility in Garland, Utah. This facility is expected to bring approximately 550 new jobs to the area and is scheduled to commence operations in January 2025.
“The Golden Spike Project Area is a testament to what can be achieved through strong partnerships and a shared vision for economic growth. We are excited to see this project continue to create opportunities for Northern Utah,” said Stephanie Pack, UIPA’s Associate Vice President of Northern Utah.
