Natural Resources commissioner succeeds Joel Ferry as a nonvoting board member
The Utah Inland Port Authority welcomes Jamie Barnes, commissioner of the Utah Department of Natural Resources, as a nonvoting member of its Board. Barnes succeeds Joel Ferry, bringing experience in natural resource management, public lands and collaboration with communities across Utah.
“Utah’s natural resources are essential to the well-being of our communities and the strength of our economy,” said Barnes. “I look forward to working with the board, UIPA staff and local partners to help communities pursue economic opportunities while planning responsibly for the lands and water we all depend on.”
Barnes previously served as Utah state forester and director of the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, where she oversaw forestry programs, wildfire response and the management of Utah’s sovereign lands. Her work has involved partnerships with local governments, landowners and state and federal agencies to address complex land and natural resource issues.
“Jamie brings practical experience and a strong understanding of the natural resource issues facing Utah communities,” said Ben Hart, UIPA executive director. “We’re grateful to welcome her to the board and look forward to working together. We also thank Joel Ferry for his service, his perspective and his commitment to Utah’s future.”
UIPA works with local communities to strengthen transportation connections and create economic opportunities throughout Utah. Its partnerships with the Department of Natural Resources help inform planning that considers both community priorities and responsible stewardship.
