On the Proposed Union Pacific–Norfolk Southern Merger
The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) congratulates Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern on their historic agreement to form America’s first transcontinental railroad. Seamlessly connecting more than 50,000 route miles across 43 states and linking approximately 100 ports, this merger has the potential to enhance the U.S. supply chain, ignite new economic growth, and support sustainable logistics nationwide.
“This proposed merger between Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern marks a historic step for American freight,” said Utah Governor Spencer Cox. “A coast-to-coast rail network will strengthen supply chains, support U.S. businesses, and expand opportunities for Utah as a national logistics hub.
