The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) board approved an amendment to the Twenty Wells Project Area in Tooele County that would expand the project boundary and support additional mixed-use development opportunities in Grantsville.
The proposed amendment would add approximately 155 acres to the existing project area, bringing the total to about 775 acres. The additional land, known as “The Crossing District,” is planned for a mix of industrial, commercial and residential uses.
Originally approved in December 2023, the Twenty Wells Project Area was created in partnership with Grantsville City to coordinate infrastructure planning, support economic development and position the area for logistics-related industries.
“This amendment reflects continued coordination between UIPA and local partners to ensure the Twenty Wells Project Area develops in a way that supports long-term economic opportunity and infrastructure readiness for Tooele County,” said Stephanie Pack, Associate Vice President of Regional Project Area Development with UIPA.
The project area sits near key transportation corridors including Interstate 80 and State Route 112 and has access to the national rail network through the Savage Tooele Railroad, creating new opportunities for rail-served industrial development.
“Grantsville has been working carefully to plan for growth that strengthens our community while protecting what makes this area special,” said Grantsville City Mayor Heidi Hammond. “Expanding the Twenty Wells Project Area helps position our city to attract responsible investment, improve infrastructure, and create job opportunities closer to home for Tooele County residents.”
Tooele County has experienced steady growth in recent years, with projections indicating the population could nearly double by 2060. The Twenty Wells Project Area is intended to help accommodate that growth by attracting new employers and improving access to regional transportation infrastructure.
