Utah Inland Port Authority Provides Update on Potential Impact of Dockworker Strike

Salt Lake City, UT – The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) is providing an update on the potential impact of the ongoing dockworker strike affecting 36 East and Gulf Coast ports. After the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) failed to reach a new six-year contract by the midnight Monday deadline, approximately 45,000 dockworkers represented by the ILA have gone on strike, halting operations at key ports.

With 80 percent of Utah’s imports coming from West Coast ports and 20 percent arriving via East and Gulf Coast ports, the strike could result in delays of critical goods such as grocery items, car parts, and holiday products.

“We are monitoring the situation closely to understand any potential impacts on Utah’s supply chains,” said Ben Hart, executive director of the Utah Inland Port Authority. “While it’s too early to gauge the full extent of the disruption, we are staying informed and will provide updates as needed.”

The Utah Inland Port Authority will continue to provide updates as the situation develops, keeping stakeholders and partners informed.
