Utah Inland Port Authority Unveils Historic Capitol Project Area Plan

The Utah Inland Port Authority announced the proposed development of the Historic Capitol Project Area within Fillmore City, Utah, encompassing approximately 1,960 acres. This initiative represents a vital step in fostering sustainable economic growth and enhancing logistical operations across the region.

Overview

Located along major corridors of Interstate 15 and close to vital transport routes such as SR 99 and SR 100, the Historic Capitol Project Area is poised to become a cornerstone of commercial and logistical activity in Millard County. The area encompasses significant historical sites and offers unique opportunities for economic revitalization and infrastructure enhancement.

Dennis Alldredge, Fillmore City Council member, noted during the presentation on the Historic Capitol Project Area at UIPA’s board meeting that the increased investment in this area provides numerous benefits stimulating economic development, improving services and overall quality of life.

Economic and Community Impact

The project aims to stimulate the local economy through targeted infrastructure improvements and the creation of high-quality jobs. Leveraging the area’s strategic location, the UIPA and local officials intend to attract industries that will significantly contribute to the local and state economy, focusing on sectors such as manufacturing and agricultural technology.

“The public benefit that UIPA would do for this project area is uncalculable for me right now,” said Wayne Jackson, Fillmore City Planner. “Something like this in Millard County and Fillmore City is paramount and something we absolutely need.”

Environmental Stewardship

Committed to sustainable development, UIPA has conducted comprehensive environmental reviews to ensure that the project adheres to the highest standards of environmental conservation. These reviews are critical in safeguarding local wildlife habitats and cultural resources, maintaining the area’s ecological integrity.

Public Participation

The Historic Capitol Project Area Plan is currently in the public review stage, with the first UIPA Board review scheduled for June 24, 2024. A final review and adotion is anticipated in August 2024. Public input and engagement are encouraged to refine and enhance the proposal, ensuring it meets the community’s needs and expectations.

Looking Forward

As the project progresses, UIPA remains dedicated to a transparent and inclusive planning process, emphasizing community benefits and sustainable development practices. The Historic Capitol Project Area is more than just a development plan; it is a vision for a prosperous, interconnected future.
