Business Relationship Manager, Business Development
Stephen Smith is the Business Relationship Manager on Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA)’s business development team and interfaces with logistics businesses to act as a resource and ensure companies are aware of UIPA capabilities and programs. He is the liaison with other State of Utah agencies as needed. Additionally, Smith coordinates with Authority partner SecurSpace to address and find solutions to significant semi-truck parking limitations, particularly in the Salt Lake region. Smith also works with Warehouse Exchange, another UIPA partner, to find opportunities to optimize warehouse space usage in Salt Lake and beyond.
Prior to joining the Authority in December 2020, Smith worked in the business process outsourcing and customer engagement industry for over 20 years. During that time, he led and supported operations and client relations teams, delivering customer-focused results for large-scale telecommunications, financial, technology and healthcare-based companies.
Outside of the Authority, Smith is also the chair of the Economic Development and Business Sustainability sub-committee with the ChamberWest Legislative Affairs Committee. That role allows him to stay connected to the legislative changes and provide a voice for the west-side business community in the State legislative process.
While Smith grew up and currently lives in the Salt Lake Valley, he attended and graduated from Southern Utah University in Cedar City and spent several years living in Southern Utah prior to and after graduating from SUU. He has a deep affection and fondness for the way of life in that part of the state.
Smith lives in Salt Lake City with his wife Michelle. They are both passionate about life in Utah and the many amazing things our entire state has to offer. When the weather is warm, they are avid “glampers” with a goal to visit every state park in Utah over the next few years.
