Port Authority Announces the Adoption of the West Weber Project Area Plan

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA), in collaboration with Weber County, announced the official adoption of the West Weber Project Area Plan. This development marks a major step forward in sustainable industrial development and economic enhancement for Northern Utah.

“The adoption of the West Weber Project Area Plan by the UIPA Board underlines our commitment to fostering economic growth while ensuring environmental stewardship and respect for community values,” said Ben Hart, Executive Director of UIPA. “This project will not only create high-quality jobs but also significantly boost the economic landscape of Northern Utah through thoughtful and strategic industrial development.”

Located near key transportation hubs, including Interstate 15 and the Union Pacific rail facilities, the West Weber Project Area, encompassing approximately 9,000 acres, is set to become a central economic force in Weber County. The plan includes significant infrastructure improvements to support both present and future logistical needs, enhancing the area’s appeal to top industries in manufacturing, distribution, and technology.

“This initiative represents a significant opportunity for economic and community development, promising to synergize Weber County’s industrial capabilities with our commitment to the environment and well-being of our residents,” said Gage Froerer, Weber County Commissioner.

The project plan was crafted following extensive consultations with local stakeholders, including property owners, environmental advocates, and community members, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to development. UIPA commits to maintaining open dialogue with the community to ensure the West Weber Project Area reflects a model of responsible and inclusive economic development.

In tandem with this development, UIPA has also unveiled the West Weber Wetlands Strategy, a cornerstone of the project plan, aimed at preserving the sensitive wetland areas within the project’s scope.

“Protecting our local ecosystems is critical as the West Weber area develops,” said Joel Ferry, UIPA board member and the Executive Director for the Utah Department of Natural Resources. “Our collaborative efforts with UIPA and Weber County ensure the development objectives are balanced with the need to preserve and protect the ecological assets that define our community, such as our waterfowl management areas and native wildlife habitats.”

The West Weber Wetlands Strategy outlines UIPA’s stringent wetland protection policies and procedural commitments, ensuring no development occurs on wetlands without thorough environmental assessments and community input. This strategic approach reflects UIPA’s dedication to ecological stewardship alongside economic progress, setting a precedent for future developments across the region.
