Port Strike Suspended, Union to Resume Operations While Negotiations Continue

Salt Lake City, UT – October 4, 2024 – The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the U.S. Maritime Alliance have reached a tentative agreement, allowing dockworkers to resume operations immediately. The strike, which affected 45,000 U.S. dockworkers at East and Gulf Coast ports, is now suspended until January 15, 2025, giving both parties time to negotiate a new contract.

The three-day strike, which began earlier this week, raised concerns about disruptions to key goods and commodities imported into Utah. The temporary resolution is expected to ease those concerns and reduce potential supply chain delays.

“We’re pleased to see the resumption of port operations, which should help alleviate fears of further disruptions,” said Ben Hart, Executive Director of UIPA.
