UIPA Welcomes Michelle Bohnen as Emissions Inventory Analyst for EPA Clean Ports Program

The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) is excited to welcome Michelle Bohnen to the team as our new Emissions Inventory Analyst, supporting UIPA’s EPA-funded Clean Ports Program Salt Lake Inland Port Clean Air Plan (SLIPCAP) project.

In this role, Michelle will oversee the implementation of a baseline emissions inventory for the Salt Lake City Intermodal Terminal (SLCIT) and contribute to the development of emission reduction strategies through modeling and analytical techniques.

Michelle holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Minnesota, with academic specialties in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management as well as Climatology and Land and Atmospheric Science.

Her background includes in-depth research on agricultural greenhouse gas emissions with the Biometeorology Group at the U of M, where she focused on mitigation strategies such as enhanced efficiency fertilizers and bacterial inoculants. She also worked as a climate science teaching assistant and served the public as a Watercraft Inspector protecting Minnesota’s lakes from invasive species.
“Michelle’s technical knowledge and dedication to protecting our planet bring tremendous value to the Clean Ports initiative,” said Mona Smith, Environmental Sustainability Director with UIPA. “Her skills in emissions modeling and climate analysis will help ensure our plans are not only ambitious—but grounded in sound data and science.”

Now based in Utah, Michelle brings deep technical expertise and a passion for environmental mitigation to UIPA’s clean transportation mission. Outside of working passionately, she enjoys camping, hiking, embroidering, road tripping, and spending time with her cat, Earl Grey.
