Mark Nord Appointed as Director of Real Estate and Development, leading  North Temple Landfill Development

The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Nord as the new Director of Real Estate and Development  in the Northwest Quadrant Project Area. Among his primary responsibilities, Mark will be leading the efforts to remediate and prepare the North Temple Landfill for future uses. Nord, an accomplished economic development and real estate professional, brings over two decades of leadership and expertise in community development, strategic partnerships, and industrial and commercial real estate projects.

In his previous role as Economic Development Director for West Valley City, Nord successfully led initiatives resulting in over $1.2 billion in capital investment, generating more than 15,000 jobs. His extensive experience includes spearheading significant redevelopment projects such as the Downtown Fairbourne Station, multiple large-scale industrial developments, and managing high-impact initiatives including the Valley Fair Mall acquisition and developments surrounding the Maverik Center.

“Mark’s deep experience and strategic vision will be invaluable as we transform the North Temple Landfill site into a vibrant economic asset,” said Stephen Smith of UIPA. “His proven track record of effective collaboration, innovative financing strategies, and impactful community-driven development aligns perfectly with UIPA’s goals to sustainably enhance the Northwest Quadrant.”

Nord also served as Deputy Mayor of Provo City and as a state lobbyist, further exemplifying his strong background in government relations, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.

Nord holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Utah. His appointment marks a significant step forward in UIPA’s mission to strategically develop state-owned properties, enhancing Utah’s economic vitality.
