Spotlight on the Northwest Quadrant Project Area

Emphasizing Sustainability and Strategic Growth

The Northwest Quadrant is witnessing substantial, meaningful development, a testament to the collaborative efforts among the Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA), local businesses, government stakeholders, and Salt Lake City. A key component of this growth is the support for diverse energy solutions, such as recent support for a 200 megawatt Battery Energy Storage System in the Northwest Quadrant , which will enhance the region’s power grid resilience and capability to store renewable energy

Our partnership with Stadler Rail, a Swiss train manufacturer with its US headquarters in the Northwest Quadrant, has significantly enhanced rail infrastructure through the extension and electrification of their test track south of I-80, promoting sustainable transportation and providing additional rail access to businesses in the area

Of those who directly benefited from this rail investment is Holcim.  Holcim’s new LEED-certified facility in the Northwest Quadrant officially opened in April. With direct access to the UIPA funded rail extension, Holcim’s operations will not only benefit from boosted logistics efficiency but also align to our environmental goals by reducing trucking dependency. This project is expected to add 75-80 jobs, illustrating our commitment to economic vitality and ecological stewardship.

Significant industrial developments continue with Northrop Grumman’s aerospace manufacturing site (currently under construction) and bioMérieux’s expanded operations, which collectively have added substantial employment opportunities to the local community, thanks to a supportive business environment and strategic incentives.

Positioned to expand its role as a key logistics hub for the state and the region, the Northwest Quadrant will enhance Utah’s connectivity with major air, rail, and coastal ports, significantly boosting our state’s logistics framework. This strategic location is designed to optimize the movement of goods across various transportation modes, making it an ideal locale for businesses looking to leverage Utah’s logistical advantages.

As UIPA continues to work alongside our stakeholders and partners, we are committed to developing world-class facilities that catalyze growth and offer robust support for businesses aiming to expand in Utah.
