Statewide Logistics Strategy

Welcome to the Utah Inland Port Authority’s new logistics initiative, where our vision for Utah’s future as a leader in logistics infrastructure and economic growth comes to life. Our recently finalized Statewide Logistics Strategy is a game-changer, positioning Utah as an essential link in national and global trade networks and driving economic growth in both urban and rural areas.

In partnership with CPCS, a consultancy specializing in transportation and logistics planning, UIPA developed a comprehensive strategy centered around three core pillar.

1

Expanding Rail Access:

Strengthening Utah’s rail connections to enhance freight movement.

2

Enhancing Coastal Connectivity:

Ensuring efficient links between Utah and major coastal ports.

3

Elevating SLCIA as a Premier Air Cargo Gateway:

Positioning Salt Lake City International Airport (SLCIA) as a top choice for air cargo.

Together, these focus areas create a robust, multi-modal framework designed to support Utah’s thriving economy, improve supply chain resilience, and deliver long-term benefits for Utah’s citizens.

Key Benefits and Goals

“Utah’s role as a logistics crossroads uniquely positions us to drive meaningful economic development,” said Ben Hart, UIPA Executive Director. “Our logistics strategy leverages Utah’s strengths and infrastructure, ensuring that we continue to attract top industries and enhance job creation across the state.”

Collaboration and Visionary Planning

UIPA and CPCS crafted this strategy through extensive collaboration with local governments, logistics providers, and industry leaders. This cooperative approach has enabled UIPA to design a logistics framework that meets current demands while preparing for future growth and market changes.

A Vision for Utah's Logistics Future

The strategy's next phase will move into project implementation with initial investments in the Northwest Quadrant and other high-potential zones. These targeted efforts will bolster Utah’s logistics infrastructure, foster advanced manufacturing, and enhance Utah’s resilience within the national supply chain.
