The Savage Tooele Railroad, Utah’s first new short-line in more than a century, is now open at the Interstate Business Park and the Lakeview Business Park in Grantsville. The 11-mile line provides companies in northwest Utah with direct, sustainable access to the national rail network and new options for efficient supply chain movement
The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) supported the project through a $10 million loan from its Authority Infrastructure Bank (AIB), helping accelerate development of the new line. The AIB program offers low-interest financing for public-benefit infrastructure that strengthens Utah’s economy and logistics network.
“Supporting critical infrastructure like the Savage Tooele Railroad is exactly why the Authority Infrastructure Bank exists,” said Stephanie Pack, Regional Project Area Development Associate Vice President over the Tooele Project Area. “This investment not only strengthens Utah’s logistics network, but also ensures that communities and businesses have access to reliable, sustainable connections for decades to come.”
Developed by Savage in partnership with Union Pacific Railroad and Lakeview Business Park developers The Romney Group and Prologis, the rail line connects directly to Union Pacific’s mainline and offers tenants immediate access to I-80, I-15, and the Salt Lake City International Airport. This shortline will also serve the Interstate Business Park developed by Zenith Group who has helped stage the construction of the new rail line. The Savage Tooele Railroad will serve the Tooele Valley and Twenty Wells project areas.
Governor Spencer J. Cox called the railroad “a once-in-a-generation initiative that will strengthen Utah’s economy well into the future.”
