UIPA Incentive Supports Stadler Rail Expansion in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City, UT (Sept. 25, 2025) – Stadler has launched welding operations for aluminum train car bodies at its expanded U.S. headquarters in Salt Lake City’s Northwest Quadrant. The milestone was made possible through support from the Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA), which awarded a long-term incentive to strengthen Utah’s manufacturing base and accelerate sustainable passenger rail solutions.

The expansion represents more than a $70 million investment and will double the size of Stadler’s existing facility, adding 245,000 square feet to accommodate two new assembly halls, a welding facility and blasting booth.

Over the next three years, Stadler plans to grow its Utah workforce from 500 to as many as 800 employees, while localizing more of its supply chain.

“This is exactly the type of investment UIPA is designed to support,” said Stephen Smith, Associate Vice President of Regional Project Area Development with UIPA. “By helping Stadler grow here in Utah, we’re not only creating high-quality jobs but also positioning our state as a national leader in innovative and sustainable transportation manufacturing.”

UIPA awarded Stadler US Inc an annual Property Tax Differential Rebate equivalent to 10% of the assessed property tax, post completion of the development.

This rebate will be provided yearly for no more than 25 years, provided continued operation within the Northwest Quadrant during that time. The award is contingent upon continued operations, corporate stewardship commitments, and water usage reviews.

With this expansion, Stadler strengthens its role as a major U.S. supplier of passenger rail vehicles, advancing projects for transit agencies across the country while contributing to Utah’s long-term economic and environmental goals.
